Offer a payment plan

Put a payment plan on a posting yourself, then change or withdraw it until the co-signer pays the down payment.

You don't have to wait for the co-signer to ask. When you agree a plan with them on the phone, offer it on the posting, and they accept it by paying the down payment. Until they do, you can change the terms or take the plan back.

Before you start

  • You can edit the posting. Only the posting's assigned agent or an agency admin sees Offer Payment Plan, Edit Plan and Withdraw Plan.
  • Your agency offers payment plans. Offer Payment Plan only shows once an admin has turned plans on. Your agency's minimum amount due doesn't apply to you. See Set up payment plans.
  • The posting is Awaiting Payment or Payment Rejected, with no plan on it. You can also offer a plan after you declined the co-signer's request, or withdrew an earlier plan. A pending request is answered with Approve Plan instead. See Review a payment plan request.

Offer the plan

Click Offer Payment Plan

Open the posting and click Offer Payment Plan in the status card. The Offer payment plan dialog opens with your agency's default terms filled in.

Set the terms

  • Down payment: in dollars, with its share of the amount due shown beside it. It has to be less than the amount due.
  • How often: Weekly, Every 2 weeks or Monthly.
  • Number of payments: how many installments follow the down payment.
  • APR: the yearly interest rate. Enter 0 for no interest.

Check the preview

The preview shows what the co-signer will be offered: the Down payment, the Amount financed, each payment and how often, The last payment when rounding makes it differ, Interest over the plan, the Total of payments, and when the first payment falls due.

Click Offer

You'll see Payment plan offered.

What happens next

  • The posting stays where it is. The status card says Payment plan offered, with the terms in one line, and that the co-signer can accept it by paying the down payment or pay the amount due in full.
  • The primary co-signer is told by text or email, with the terms.
  • Their bail page shows Your payment plan is ready, the invoice, and Your plan: the down payment, then how many payments of how much and how often, the APR, the total with interest, and when the first payment falls due.
  • They choose what to pay. If your agency takes online payments, they see Pay down payment and Pay in full instead, each with its amount. Otherwise they follow your payment instructions and, when they upload their proof, say whether it's for the Down payment or the Full amount.
  • Your payment plan agreement joins their documents, if your agency has a co-signer template marked Only with a payment plan. See Replace, download or delete a template.

Other co-signers see Payment plan offered and the same terms beside the invoice, but only the primary co-signer can pay.

Change the terms

While the co-signer hasn't paid the down payment, click Edit Plan in the status card. The Edit payment plan dialog opens with the plan's own terms. Change what you need and click Save. The co-signer is told the new terms, and the documents are filled in again.

Withdraw the plan

Click Withdraw Plan

In the status card, click Withdraw Plan.

Give a reason

Write a Reason, such as You told us you'd rather pay in full. It's required, and the co-signer reads it.

Click Withdraw

You'll see Payment plan withdrawn.

The posting stays where it is, back to waiting on payment in full. The primary co-signer is told, with your reason, and their bail page shows Payment plan withdrawn. They can't ask for a plan again, but you can offer a new one.

Edit Plan and Withdraw Plan aren't available while a payment is being processed or waits for your review.

When the co-signer pays

  • Paying the down payment accepts the plan. The posting moves to Review Documents, exactly as it does for a payment in full, and the terms are locked: Edit Plan and Withdraw Plan are gone. The first installment falls due one period after the day the down payment was paid. See Collect installments and payoffs.
  • Paying the full amount instead drops the plan, and with it the payment plan agreement.

The down payment is reviewed, recorded or paid online like any other payment. When you record it yourself, choose Down payment under Payment for. See Record an in-person payment and Review a co-signer's payment proof.
